A nomad isn’t defined by a zip code or a set of coordinates on a map. A nomad is defined by motion and the willingness to go where the land, the season, and the pursuit demand.
For centuries, nomads followed game, weather, and opportunity. Today, that instinct hasn’t changed, it has evolved. We still move with purpose - chasing moments that can’t be scheduled, landscapes that can’t be replicated, and experiences that can only be earned by showing up. It is why we named this brand Nomad. We believe a life well lived is one chasing the hunt, learning the land and understanding that the calendar is written by nature, not convenience.
As we come into turkey hunting season, somewhere between winter’s last grip and spring’s first green, we must track the natural changes in our (and the animals') environment. To kick off our year, we turn our compass south to Mexico - a place that demands respect from anyone who hunts it - where the air is warmer, the terrain unfamiliar and the colors brighter. The forests are alive in a way that feels ancient and it's here, in the Yucatán, that the ocellated turkey lives, one of the most striking and elusive birds in the world.
Chasing ocellated turkeys isn’t just another hunt, it’s a test of adaptability. These birds don’t behave like the Easterns, Rios, or Merriams we’re used to. They move differently. They sound different. They blend into the jungle in a way that challenges even seasoned eyes. Every step, every setup, every decision forces you to learn the land on its terms and THAT is what we do. We don’t impose on nature, we adapt to it.
While the challenges of hunting ocellated turkeys are many - long mornings, dense cover, and a highly elusive bird just to name a few - this hunt is not about checking a box it’s about earning the experience. It's about standing in a place far from home and realizing that the pursuit feels exactly the same as it always has: honest, humbling, and unforgettable.
This year we were lucky enough to start our season with a trip to El Halcon Outfitters in the heart of the Yucatán jungle. For every turkey hunter the World Slam is not just a goal, it is a bucket list that represents a willingness to travel beyond comfort zones, to hunt new ground, to learn new birds, and to respect new cultures along the way. It’s a reminder that the hunt doesn’t end at state lines or even national borders but an adventure that will be told for years to come. Each bird taken toward a World Slam carries a story of miles driven, flights caught, camps built, mistakes made, and lessons learned. It’s not about how fast you complete it. It’s about how deeply you experience it and for us - the modern nomads - the World Slam isn’t a finish line, it’s a road map.

Stay tuned as what follows tells the story of this hunt from two perspectives - one stepping into the Yucatán jungle for the first time, and one returning to a place that has become part of his season for years. Two paths, one pursuit. Together, their words capture why this trip matters, why it marks the true beginning of the year, and why some hunts stay with you long after the last call fades. This is the season, told by those who answered the call of pursuit.
